One of the biggest agencies in the United States, the Creative Artists Agency (CAA), has signed director Saim Sadiq. By doing this, he joins the ranks of A-list actors and industry stars like Zendaya, Tom Hanks, Samuel L. Jackson, Pete Davidson, Ellen DeGeneres, Ryan Murphy, Steven Spielberg, Allison Williams, and A$AP Rocky, among others. Sadiq became well-known after his drama film Joyland came out, and Variety put him on their list of “10 Directors to Watch” for 2023.
The jury liked Joyland, which was the first Pakistani film to ever have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022. It won the Uncertain Regard and Queer Palm awards.
The movie has also been nominated for Best International Film at the Independent Spirit Awards and made the short list for the 95th Academy Awards in 2023.
Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist and the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize, and Riz Ahmed, a British-Pakistani artist who has won Oscars and Emmys, both support Joyland. The couple worked as executive producers on Sadiq’s good movie.
Along with Junejo and Khan, the movie has important parts for Sania Saeed, Sarwat Gilani, Rasti Farooq, Salman Peerzada, and Sohail Samir.
In the sexual revolution story Joyland, we follow the life of the youngest son in a family where the father is in charge. Even though his family is hoping that he and his wife will have a son, he joins an erotic dance theater. There, he falls in love with the trans woman who runs the troupe.
