Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan Differ on ‘Vulgar’ Dance Step in Jumma Chumma
In the iconic 1991 film Hum, Amitabh Bachchan and Kimi Katkar shared the screen in the timeless song Jumma Chumma. Recently, the song’s choreographer, Chinni Prakash, revealed that Amitabh found one of the dance moves to be ‘vulgar’ and wanted it removed from the song. However, Jaya Bachchan had complete faith in the step.
Directed by Mukul Anand, Hum featured a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Kimi Katkar, Rajinikanth, Govinda, Shilpa Shirodkar, Annu Kapoor, Danny Denzongpa, Anupam Kher, and Kader Khan. Chinni Prakash received the Filmfare Best Choreographer Award for Jumma Chumma, while Sudesh Bhosle won Best Singer for the song.
Chinni revealed that it was Govinda who recommended him for the song. When he approached Amitabh Bachchan in his vanity van and demonstrated the steps for Jumma Chumma, the Bollywood legend initially found the hook step ‘vulgar’ but agreed to give it a chance. Chinni shared during an episode of Weekend with Ramesh, “He (Amitabh) saw the hook step I did for Jumma Chumma and said, ‘It is vulgar. What are you doing? It looks bad.’ I suggested trying something different, but he proposed that we give the steps a try and remove them later if they didn’t look good.”
“After editing the song, Jaya Bachchan was present, and she was delighted with the step,” Chinni added. “She said, ‘This is the best step; people will not forget this.’ Jaya Ji believed that the hook step would become a hit. Despite Amitabh’s reservations, Jaya Ji insisted on keeping the hook step in the song, and she convinced Amitabh Bachchan to retain it.”
Amitabh Bachchan has several upcoming projects, including Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai and Project K, featuring Deepika Padukone and Prabhas. He will also be seen alongside Deepika in the Hindi version of The Intern. Additionally, Amitabh Bachchan is set to appear in Ganapath alongside Tiger Shroff.
