The Tamil movie business is going through a very interesting time right now. Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo
Undoubtedly, the most hyped Tamil film at the moment is Thalapathy 67, aka Leo, the upcoming gangster drama that features Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role. This is the second time that the star has worked with hitmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj on a project. The project’s unique announcement teaser, which came out on Friday, February 3, has been setting the internet on fire. The movie is set to come out in theatres on October 19 of this year. It has a great cast, including Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priya Anand, Mysskin, Mansoor Ali Khan, and others.
2. Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan
On April 28, this year, the long-awaited sequel to Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus, which came out in 2022, will hit theaters. Ponniyin Selvan 2 is also expected to have the same magic as the first movie, which became the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time. The main star cast of Part 1, including Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi, and others, will reprise their roles in Part 2, while a bunch of new faces are also expected to be featured in important roles.

3. Jailer
The much-anticipated dark comedy thriller, which will be Rajinikanth’s first film with director Nelson Dilipkumar, is said to be coming out in August of this year. In Jailer, the legendary star plays an old prison officer named Muthuvel Pandian. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is making a special appearance in the film. Shiva Rajkumar, a Kannada superstar, plays the main bad guy in the movie. Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi, Vinayakan, and other actors play supporting roles. There are rumours that Sivakarthikeyan will have an extended cameo.
4. Indian 2
The legendary actor Kamal Haasan will finally finish filming his ambitious project Indian 2 in a few weeks. The movie, which is being directed by a seasoned director named S. Shankar, is finally getting to the end of its production after many delays. Even though the makers haven’t said when Indian 2 will come out, it’s likely that it will be in theatres in the second half of 2023.
Other big projects
For the unfamiliar, apart from these four main releases for the year, Tamil cinema is busy producing some highly promising content. Japan, the upcoming thriller that features Karthi in the lead role, is one of the most promising projects and is expected to hit theatres this year. Some of the other big projects are Captain Miller by Dhanush, Pathu Thala by Silambarasan, Ayaalan by Sivakathikeyan, and Maaveeran, among many others.
