Sushmita Sen Almost Skipped Miss India 1994 Because of Aishwarya Rai, Reveals Old Video

An old video of Sushmita Sen has been making rounds on Reddit, where the former beauty queen revealed that she almost missed her chance to participate in Miss India 1994 because of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

In the video, Sushmita revealed that she withdrew her Miss India form after learning that Aishwarya, who she thought was extremely beautiful, was also participating. However, Sushmita’s mother encouraged her to participate and scolded her for almost giving up.

During the interview, Sushmita also shared that 25 other girls also withdrew their forms because of Aishwarya’s participation. Despite the tough competition, Sushmita went on to win the title and represented India at the Miss Universe pageant, where she won the crown.

Sushmita’s winning moment was a result of her impressive performance during the tie breaker round, where she talked about her personal preferences in clothing and India’s textile heritage. She gave credit to Mahatma Gandhi’s promotion of Khadi, which became the basis of India’s textile legacy.

The 47-year-old actress is currently busy shooting for the third season of her web series, Aarya.
