Two-time Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy was awarded by the British human rights organization The People’s Portfolio through her documentary “Inspiring leadership, [and show] great courage and compassion for fellow human beings”.
The organization was founded by the acclaimed British portrait and documentary photographer Platon. It aspires to create a visual language, break down barriers, expand dignity, combat discrimination, and appeal to the public to support human rights around the world.
Every year, the organization organizes a fundraising event to help them carry out future work and projects. The highlight of the event has always been to award a human rights defender who has shown extraordinary leadership in our time.
