Sharmila Tagore Expresses Disapproval of Contemporary Television Content

Sharmila Tagore Expresses Concerns Over Regressive Television Content

Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore has voiced her disapproval of the content being showcased on television these days, labeling it as extremely regressive. As a member of the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC), Tagore shared her thoughts during a conversation with ETimes.

According to Tagore, “The content being offered on TV today is quite regressive. Most TV serials portray women as women’s worst enemies, and that is truly unfortunate. The government keeps a watchful eye on this, and ultimately, it comes down to us.”

The actress, known for her role in “Break Ke Baad,” further stated, “Sometimes, we reach out to the show producers, requesting them to modify or eliminate certain objectionable elements. However, producers often refuse to comply, as commercial interests often supersede logic.”

Tagore emphasized that although she may not be actively acting in films presently, it does not mean she has retired. She stated, “Even if I am not working in films today, it does not imply that I have retired. I may not be acting, but I continue to discuss cinema on various platforms. You don’t have to be at the peak of your career; at every stage, speaking up and making your presence felt is what makes a difference.”

Sharmila Tagore, widely regarded as one of the finest actors in Hindi cinema, had remained away from the limelight for an extended period. However, she recently made her comeback with the OTT film “Gulmohar,” alongside Manoj Bajpayee.
