Today marks the seventh year since the untimely departure of the world-renowned singer and naat reciter, Amjad Sabri. His tragic assassination in Karachi while en route to the studio left his fans and the music industry in deep sorrow.

Born on December 23, 1976, in Karachi, Amjad Sabri belonged to a prestigious Qawwal family with a rich musical heritage in the Indian subcontinent. His father, Ghulam Farid Sabri, and his uncle, Maqbool Farid Sabri, gained immense fame as the Sabri Brothers and made a significant impact in the world of Qawwali.

Amjad Sabri began his Qawwali training under the guidance of his father, Ghulam Farid Sabri, and started performing alongside him on stage at the tender age of twelve. His exceptional talent and passion for Qawwali soon made him a prominent figure in the music industry. Amjad Sabri beautifully recreated the famous Qawwalis of his father and uncle, infusing them with his own melodious voice.

Songs like “Bhar do Jholi Meri” and “Mann Kunto Maula” became iconic representations of Amjad Sabri’s mesmerizing singing. His renditions of these Qawwalis were not only celebrated in Bollywood but also cherished by fans worldwide in his unique voice.

Tragically, Amjad Farid Sabri’s life was cut short on June 22, 2016, while he was on his way to the studio.
