Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy said that there will be a $10 million fund for Pakistani women filmmakers.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who has won two Oscars, gave a Rs. 10 million award to Pakistani women through Patakha Pictures, a platform for funding and mentoring.

“Stories from Southern Pakistan,” their third mentoring programme, will have US and Scottish filmmakers as mentors.

“The success of Patakha Pictures’ funding programmes has been so inspiring to me, especially the fact that many of our fellow filmmakers’ films are being shown around the world and getting praise. Sharmeen said, “At this historic moment, I am very proud to be starting our third and biggest-ever funding programme for female filmmakers in Pakistan.”

“We know that this funding is important for filmmakers to realise their dreams of making movies, and this time we’re making a special effort to find women from smaller towns and villages in Sindh and Balochistan,” she said.

The project, which was set up with the help of Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) and the US Consulate General in Karachi, will be open to female filmmakers from Sindh and Balochistan who are interested.

From January to August 2023, the training programme will be done online twice a month. Consultants from all over the world will lead professional consultation sessions during the workshops.

Atakha Pictures wants to help and train a new generation of Pakistani women filmmakers who want to make thought-provoking movies about women’s rights, violence against women and minorities, the arts, culture, climate change, and promoting peace.
