Honoring the Legacy of Renowned Host Tariq Aziz on His Third Death Anniversary

Lahore: Today marks the third death anniversary of the esteemed television host Tariq Aziz, as he is fondly remembered by his fans and admirers.

Born in Jalandhar in 1936, Tariq Aziz received his early education in Jalandhar before migrating to Sahiwal, Pakistan, in 1947. He pursued his graduation from Government College Sahiwal.

Tariq Aziz gained immense popularity as a Pakistani television presenter, most notably for his iconic quiz show Neelam Ghar. He kick-started his career at Radio Pakistan in Lahore.

Aziz’s name became synonymous with Pakistan Television’s (PTV) quiz show, which eventually transformed into “Tariq Aziz Show” and later evolved into “Bazm-e-Tariq Aziz.” With his remarkable hosting skills, the veteran star interviewed numerous renowned sports personalities, celebrities, and intellectuals on his television programs.

His first appearance on TV in 1974 marked the beginning of his meteoric rise to fame. Notably, Tariq Aziz holds the distinction of being the first TV announcer in Pakistan in 1964.

Beyond his television endeavors, Tariq Aziz also made notable contributions to Pakistani cinema. He embarked on his film career with the movie “Insaniyat” in 1967, alongside Waheed Murad and Zeba. He also appeared in another Lollywood film titled “Haar Gaya Insaan” and actively worked in the Pakistani film industry during the late 1960s and 1970s.

For his remarkable performance in the film “Salgira” released in 1969, Tariq Aziz was honored with two Nigar Awards.

In addition to his work in the entertainment industry, Aziz was a prolific writer and poet. He authored several books, including “Hazar Dastaan,” “Footpath say Parliament tak,” “Iqbal Shanasi,” and “Hamzad Da Dukh.”

Recognizing his immense contributions, Tariq Aziz was bestowed with the prestigious ‘Pride of Performance Award’ by the Government of Pakistan in 1994.

Sadly, Tariq Aziz passed away at the age of 84 on June 17, 2020, due to cardiac arrest, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the world of television and entertainment.
