Alamgir Tareen, the owner of Multan Sultans, tragically passes away

Alamgir Tareen, the owner of Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Multan Sultans, tragically took his own life on Thursday.

According to Lahore Police, Tareen used a pistol to shoot himself in the head at his residence in Gulberg.

In a statement, the Sultans expressed deep sadness and announced the passing of their beloved team owner, Alamgir Khan Tareen. They requested privacy for his family during this difficult time and extended their thoughts and prayers. May his soul rest in eternal peace, they added.

Police officials present at the scene revealed that Tareen left a hand-written suicide note mentioning that he was suffering from an illness. However, no further details were provided.

Some close friends of Tareen, when approached by Asian Lifestyle, stated that the deceased had not mentioned anything about his illness while he was alive.

At 63 years old, Tareen was unmarried but had plans to get married in December later this year.

Tareen had established himself as a prominent businessman in South Punjab and operated one of the largest water purification plants in the country. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley and went on to complete his master’s degree from Yale University.

According to the official website of the Sultans, Tareen was a sports enthusiast who aimed to create a strong platform for aspiring sportsmen and women, providing them with the best resources to develop their skills.

Tareen was also instrumental in implementing a data-based approach within the cricket franchise.

“We had a memorable journey with Alamgir regarding PSL. He was a good friend and had a graceful personality,” said Atif Rana, CEO of Lahore Qalandars.
