NEW YORK: (Web Desk) Popular video streaming company Netflix will begin 2023 with a crackdown on account password sharing.
Recently, the Wall Street Journal reported in a report that Netflix will introduce measures to stop account sharing in the United States in early 2023, which will later be expanded worldwide.
Note that in August 2022, the company launched a test in 5 Latin American countries where those who shared passwords with others were asked to pay a fee for each additional household.
At that time, the company said that if a user’s account is used for more than 2 weeks at different locations outside his residence, the company will demand additional fees.
Simply put, if someone who doesn’t live in your household uses your Netflix account, there will be an additional fee to pay.
Netflix also introduced a feature to transfer profiles between accounts with the same goal.
According to the Wall Street Journal report, the additional fee that will be charged for a password-sharing account in the United States may be less than $7.
The Company expects that persons using the accounts of others in this way will become users of the Service themselves.
The crackdown has not yet been officially announced by the company as it also fears that many users may leave the service.
According to the company, 100 million people around the world use the service for free through their friends’ accounts.
