MUMBAI. Lata Mangeshkar, a legendary Indian singer whose voice won over millions of hearts, was just as well known for her morals as she was for her singing.
At the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award ceremony in Mumbai, Asha Bhosle, her sister, said that someone had once asked them to a wedding. It was worth a million dollars or pounds for them to get in. Those are the names of the two singers they said they wanted. It took the late singer’s sister a while to tell the rep that they wouldn’t sing at any wedding, even if they were paid Rs 10 crore to do so. The person was said to be very disappointed.
Asha also said that Lata always fought for the rights of singers in the movie business. She made sure that the names of the singers were on the records. This happened for the first time when she sang “Aayega Aanewala.” Asha said that Lata also had her name on the screen and that singers get paid a lot.
