Priyanka Chopra tied the knot with Nick Jonas in 2018, and the couple welcomed their baby girl, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. Recently, Priyanka’s mother, Madhu Chopra, discussed her thoughts on her daughter’s decision to marry Nick, who is not Indian. Madhu revealed that she had a one-on-one discussion with Nick before the wedding and concluded that he was the right fit for Priyanka.
During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Madhu was asked if she had concerns about Priyanka marrying someone non-Indian. Madhu expressed that, having studied outside India, Priyanka was already accustomed to diversity, understanding that there were no differences between “white, black, and brown.” She emphasized that such matters were normalized for her family, as they had spent time with Priyanka in America.
Madhu clarified that her only apprehension about Priyanka’s wedding was that her daughter would be far away. Despite this concern, Madhu acknowledged the ability to stay connected, saying, “I just kept feeling that she was going very far away from me. I had a bit of apprehension that she’ll be so far away but then I also felt that it is okay, we can always reach each other in fifteen hours.”
Madhu also shared insights into her family’s initial impressions of Nick Jonas. She revealed that she had a private conversation with Nick to understand if he was the right person for her daughter. After the discussion, Madhu was convinced that Nick was perfect for Priyanka. She highlighted that the family liked Nick immediately, emphasizing the importance of understanding a person’s personality beyond appearances. Madhu concluded, “After that, I realized that he was just the right person for my daughter. He was what I wanted for Priyanka.”
