Legendary Actor Shakeel Passes Away at the Age of 85, Leaving Behind an Impeccable Legacy

Karachi bid farewell to the iconic veteran actor Shakeel, known for his pivotal roles in numerous memorable Pakistani Television plays such as Ankahi, Shehzori, Uncle Urfi, Uroosa, Afshan, Anaa, Zair Zabar Pesh, Intizar Farmaiye, Parchaiyan, and Aangan Terha. On Thursday, the revered artist succumbed to a prolonged illness at the age of 85. Shakeel, born Yousuf Kamal, was laid to rest on Friday at the graveyard in Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Phase VIII.

Shakeel’s journey in the world of acting began with theater and he also made notable contributions to the film industry. However, it was his exceptional talent in television dramas that truly established him as a legend. He became closely associated with PTV Karachi from its early days and portrayed lead characters in several iconic plays during the 70s and 80s. Later in his career, Shakeel transitioned to character roles and contributed to various private television networks.

Renowned for his versatility, Shakeel effortlessly portrayed both serious and comedic roles. Though he had undergone a bypass surgery years ago and battled arthritis in recent times, he continued to captivate audiences with his performances.

Funeral prayers for Shakeel were held at the Sultan Masjid in DHA, with a multitude of people from the entertainment industry, including Behroze Sabzwari, Faisal Qureshi, Aftab Alam, Shahzad Raza, and individuals from all walks of life attending to pay their respects and honor his contributions to the world of acting.

Condolences poured in swiftly as news of Shakeel’s passing spread. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed deep sorrow and acknowledged Shakeel’s significant impact on the art world. “Actor Shakeel was a prominent figure in the industry, and his legacy will always be remembered,” stated the Chief Minister, offering prayers for the departed artist’s elevated status.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori highlighted Shakeel’s pivotal role in elevating the entertainment industry, emphasizing his stature as a prominent figure.

Punjab interim Chief Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi also expressed grief and sorrow over Shakeel’s demise, extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Actor Faisal Qureshi took to Twitter to express his sadness, saying, “With a heavy heart, I share the news that our dearest Yousuf Kamal Shakeel, the pride of our nation, the man who entertained us for the longest time, has left us today.”

Veteran actress Bushra Ansari, who played Shakeel’s wife in Aangan Terha, expressed her profound sorrow, mentioning that the joy of Eid had diminished due to Shakeel’s passing. “You were a true hero,” she wrote on Instagram, reminiscing about their shared experiences.
